What does a personal love story mean to you?
To me, a personal love story is so much more than just the answer to the question of how two people met. I’m interested in the moments behind it: Why did they choose each other? What gives them strength when life gets tough? What do they laugh about together? In my conversations, I look for exactly these stories. I want to understand what sustains their relationship, what values connect them, and what special qualities they appreciate in each other. Often, it’s the seemingly insignificant details that end up making your heart skip a beat the most. That’s why I don’t rely on standard questions or pre-packaged concepts. I listen, ask follow-up questions, and let those interactions spark ideas that truly resonate with the people sitting in front of me.
How do you make sure the wedding guests can relate to your wedding speech?
For me, it’s essential not just to string events together, but to describe feelings, memories, and situations in a way that resonates with the guests. Family, friends, and close companions are often part of the couple’s shared history and have experienced many of the moments being recounted firsthand. When a best friend smiles, the parents recognize themselves in a memory, or guests think, “Yes, that’s exactly how they are,” then a genuine sense of connection is created. In doing so, I tell the couple’s story in a way that keeps it personal while also touching on something universal. Everyone knows feelings like love, trust, courage, or solidarity from their own lives. Drawing on my experience as a host, I also pay close attention to striking the right balance between emotion, lightheartedness, and humor, so that everyone feels included.
How do you come up with ideas and create special moments for a non-religious wedding ceremony?
That makes me smile. Because my ideas really do need space to grow. They’re allowed to mature over weeks and take shape from the many little pieces of the puzzle that make up a couple’s story. My work begins long before the wedding consultation: with a detailed questionnaire, initial thoughts, images, and ideas. During our in-person meeting, I want to understand what lies behind the stories. Often, I’ll follow up by speaking with a few special people close to their hearts or delving into themes that are important to their relationship. It’s precisely these details that make a non-religious wedding ceremony so unique and personal.
What makes the combination of a non-religious wedding ceremony and musical accompaniment so special?
For me, words and music go together in a special way. Both have the power to express emotions, evoke memories, and touch people’s hearts. For my couples, this combination means, above all, one-stop planning. I can tailor musical moments perfectly to the ceremony and ensure that words and music come together to create a harmonious overall experience. For me, music is a language that everyone understands—regardless of age, language, background, or life story. A particular song, a melody on the saxophone, or a soulful clarinet piece can often strike a chord deep in the heart and create exactly the atmosphere that a moment deserves. This is especially important to me, because it allows me to convey the emotions of a wedding ceremony even more intensely to the guests. The result is a wedding ceremony that reflects the couple’s story and makes it truly unique.
